How it works
The Bridal Makeup Process
From your initial inquiry to the final makeup adjustments on your wedding morning, here’s what to expect when working with Emily J MUA.
Booking
From inquiry to wedding day
- 01
Your Initial Inquiry
Submit your wedding date, venue, getting-ready location, and anticipated number of makeup services. I’ll review the details and respond with availability and collection information.
- 02
Your Reservation
Once availability is confirmed, you’ll receive a personalized proposal, service agreement, and invoice through HoneyBook. Your date is reserved upon receipt of your signed agreement and 50% non-refundable retainer.
- 03
Your Bridal Preview
Your two-hour bridal preview is typically held at your residence. Please arrive with a clean, makeup-free face. We’ll discuss your preferences, assess your skin, and complete your bridal makeup.
- 04
Your Wedding Day
Your makeup schedule will be organized around the preparation timeline, with designated appointment times for each client and additional time for final bridal adjustments.

Your Bridal Makeup Preview
Two-Hour Appointment
A two-hour appointment dedicated to your wedding-day look. We’ll discuss your makeup preferences, assess your skin, and develop the look you’ll wear on your wedding day.
We’ll begin with a consultation and skin analysis to better understand your complexion, skincare routine, and any concerns that may influence product selection or application. From there, we’ll complete your bridal makeup, exploring coverage, color, lash placement, and finishing techniques.
This appointment also provides an opportunity to evaluate your makeup in different lighting, discuss adjustments, and establish the details of your wedding-day application.
Preparing for your appointment
Please arrive with a clean, makeup-free face
To allow for an accurate skin analysis, please arrive without makeup. This gives me the opportunity to evaluate your skin’s natural condition, including texture, hydration, and areas that may benefit from additional preparation.
Optional recommendations
For a more accurate representation of your complete wedding-day look, I recommend the following:
- 01
Consider your hairstyle
If possible, wear your hair in a similar style to what you’re planning for your wedding. Whether it’s an updo, soft waves, or a sleek style, this can help you visualize how your makeup and hair will complement each other.
- 02
Match your wedding-day tan
If you’re planning to have a professional spray tan for your wedding, consider scheduling one before your preview. This allows us to select complexion shades that complement your anticipated wedding-day skin tone.
- 03
Choose a similar neckline
Wearing a top with a neckline resembling your wedding gown can help you see how your makeup looks alongside the shape of your dress.
- 04
Wear white or ivory
A white or ivory top is recommended to help you visualize your makeup against a color similar to your bridal gown.
- 05
Bring your inspiration
Save a few makeup photographs that reflect your preferences. Images of your wedding gown, accessories, and anticipated hairstyle are also helpful when discussing your overall look.
- 06
Consider your accessories
If you’ve already selected your wedding jewelry or hair accessories, feel free to bring them. Seeing these details together can help you make more informed decisions about your finished look.
A few additional notes
- Bridal previews typically take place at your residence.
- Please allow approximately two hours for the complete appointment.
- Avoid introducing unfamiliar skincare products or scheduling aggressive skin treatments immediately before your preview.
- Arrive with clean skin and follow your usual gentle skincare routine unless otherwise instructed.
- Bring any information about known product allergies or skin sensitivities.
- The preview is an opportunity to make adjustments. You do not need to have every detail of your bridal makeup decided beforehand.
These recommendations are entirely optional. The only preparation requirement is arriving with a clean, makeup-free face for your skin analysis.
